Revolutionizing energy storage

 EnZinc is on a mission to bring better batteries to market.  We have developed a new zinc anode, using technology developed by the US Naval Research Laboratory, that can be used in a family of batteries. The batteries using safe, plentiful zinc will have equivalent or better performance than Li-ion but at a cost more like lead-acid. Other solutions using zinc have sought additives or mechanical systems to extend the cycle life. EnZinc will offer the world's first structural zinc electrode solution in the form of a 3D zinc metal micro-sponge. Perfect for both mobile and stationary applications, the EnZinc electrode will help realize the dream of a renewable, greener energy 21st century ecosystem.

Higher specific energy and more readily available materials means a battery that is as powerful as you need, but at a lower price point. 
100% recyclable with commonly-available materials means EnZinc's products won't end up in the landfill or need expensive dismantling or disposal. 
Unlike lithium-ion-based batteries, EnZinc's product has no risk of thermal runaway.

Why Zinc?

Zinc is a plentiful, safe, and recyclable metal, mined right here in North America. It has high specific energy and energy density, making it ideal for batteries, and  EnZinc will be the first company offering a rechargeable zinc-based battery.
  • Lithium is largely mined in Bolivia and China, and is already expensive, and may rise in price as global demand increases.
  • Cobalt, used in the Li-ion battery cathode, is expensive and resource constrained.
  • Lead, the prime metal in most standard car batteries, is cheap and plentiful, but it is also polluting and hard to dispose of safely. Recycling is a must not an option.

Imagine the same range at half the cost.  Meeting the needs of full electric vehicles, hybrid vehicles, and vehicles with start-stop engines, 3D zinc-based batteries will offer the power and range needed, at a lower cost. They will be lighter weight or longer range, safer, and recyclable.​

eBikes

​One of the fastest growing segments in the world, ebikes are powering the growth of the middle class in many emerging economies. They need lightweight, safe and efficient batteries, and 3D zinc is perfect for this application. Electric motorbikes and motor scooters will also benefit from the power and performance of zinc-based batteries.​

Other Markets

As the grid gets more and more renewable energy resources, the demand for energy storage before and after the meter, as well as in microgrids, is growing exponentially. EnZinc's high power density and low cost is ideal for on- and off-grid, residential, commercial and industrial, or utility-scale energy storage. ​
 The attributes of EnZinc's battery will naturally benefit other applications, including military, unmanned aerial vehicles, industrial forklifts, aviation, consumer electronics, wearables and more. Anything currently powered by a plug or a battery is a potential market for EnZinc's batteries.
